I work in HR at my company. There's a coordinator girl in our department getting fired today. Everybody in the department except her knows it already. But we just had a 45 minute meeting including this girl, to go over a bunch of new processes and how we should handle different kinds of circumstances. So there was lots of this girl asking questions, and my boss telling her how to handle things, but she's not actually going to be here tomorrow. Gotta keep up appearances until the end of the day I suppose.

So, here's a 3.0 CSL art car.

Edit: So I should clarify a few things:

1. She's a temp covering a coordinator job until we hire someone full time. Her main responsibility is to schedule interviews. But several people who have asked her to schedule interviews, including me, she's told them she can't do it because she's too busy.

2. When she's asked to do other things, she often instead of saying "ok I'll do that" says "we should do it this other way that's more convenient for me instead" and usually her idea does not actually satisfy the original request. She argues like this all the time. I try to be nice with her but she's argumentative with me anyway.

3. She and I have the same boss who has told me about it so I know what's up if there's some kind of scene, but I would be putting myself at risk if I said anything to this girl, because in the heat of the moment of getting fired, what if she lets slip that I told her?

4. The decision to fire her was just made today and I only found out a couple hours before said meeting.

Unless she's getting this car as a parting gift, and something tells me she isn't, it's a sad story. Why didn't you tell her she's going to get fired. That meeting could have been much more fun.

Anyhow that is shitty, they dont want her to wipe her computer or anything? At my company it doesnt happen too often luckily, but when it does IT knows before they call you in and that is it

I'd have left her an anonymous note on her desk.

I'd then start to update my resume.

That's what I hate about HR and bosses, in particular. It's super shitty.

There has to be a polite way to let them know when you find out.

And you are a rotten piece of shit! Oh wait, HR, figures. You should at least give her some advanced notice so that she can find another job.

If she's really that bad, how would she not know?

You could at least move her office to a poorly lit basement with mold and rats everywhere and hope she quits on her own.

Seems to me that posting about someone who is getting fired, and doesn't know it, on a public forum, during work hours, presumably from a company computer (that's an assumption though, so sorry if I got that part wrong) is a pretty big HR violation/issue... Just sayin'. ;)

This.

If you are that bad, you are told right away. If you are simply being let go, you're also told so you don't waste time.

Stringing someone along like that? Bullshit.

That's one of the problems I have with the whole term "Human Resources", people are fellow human beings not a resource that can be mined and traded like coal or oar. That being said, your boss is a dick and a coward. Or maybe he likes to get high on power? Anyway, not a person I'd like to have a beer with. I'm sure this whole situation could have been handled much more maturely.

She will still get paid for the time she is "wasting".

I've lost my job, twice, because of mergers/contracts and other random bullshit. Both times, I ended up right back in my old job. Same desk, same phone number, doing work for the same company in the end. The first time it happened, I knew it was coming, but still just hung around collecting pay checks until the upper folks had the balls to call me and tell me they fucked around too long to renew my contract.
And honestly, the company does not owe her any explanation or advance notice.

As for her not know she sucks, read this.
Dunning–Kruger effect

There used to be a woman that worked for the company I work for. She sucked at her job. Everyone but her knew it. She was in her own world of ignorant bliss. She got fired.

And do not get me wrong. I hate corporations. I hate what they stand for. I hate the bullshit they put employees through. Pretty much everything about them. Luckily I work for a small company. We just charge a large corporation to do work for them. HA!

Nope, just makes it even worse.

I bet your boss told the agency it was "temp to hire" right? Rotten to both her and the agency. If it was a true temporary job, she'd already know the end date. It a very common thing to tell staffing agencies it's temp to hire when you're really just looking for a bench warming placeholder. And that's what they got. Ask her how much she got paid; I bet it's much less than the agency led your boss to believe. Even though the agency may have told you and her that she cannot discuss it with you, YES IT CAN be discussed because it is a legally protected activity .

Item #2 is a direct result of using a temp in the first place. You get what you pay for. And it sounds like the company treated her the way she treated you. One question though, did she start out good and then turn bad?

Good to know that Kinja extended the edit time (used to be 15 min)

The agency was told it was temp only. After she started, a full time position was opened up. She applied for it, but by then she was already causing problems (at that time I didn't know about them) so wasn't considered because of her performance.

I actually was the last person to find out she was having problems. I was always super nice to her, very polite, and she was usually helpful to me. But I guess when other people started complaining about her to my boss, and my boss started telling her about the complaints, she started acting that way towards me.

Even now that she's acting like this, I've never argued back with her. Just this morning I asked her very nicely do something and she got argumentative. I never yelled, never argued, calmly explained why I needed her help, so could she please do what I was asking, but she kept acting pissed off. She came by my desk this afternoon to apologize for snapping at me. But this is far from the first time and she often does not apologize.

Thanks for the clarification. I didn't mean to indict you as being shitty to her.

And it certainly sounds like this is warranted.

My comment is in response to my own experience with coworkers at my place of business. The majority of the times people have been "laid off" (read: fired) have been because they're not doing enough work and are too expensive. So the decision is made to fire them, it gets passed down to the local boss, and the local boss has had to sit on it for a day or two while the regional boss comes in to actually do the firing.

Since we're such a tight knit office, I dislike the idea of one person having to sit on hurtful information.
